DigiFabs Summer School - Emerging Technology
On August 27, at the Digifabseu Summer School 2025, students had the opportunity to engage in dynamic lectures focusing on how digital technologies are reshaping the Food and Beverage sector.
The sessions were delivered by leading experts:
Internet of Things (IoT) – Mr. George K. Georgiou, ECECT
Robotics and Automation – Mrs. Foteini Georgiou, ECECT
Data Analytics, Governance, and Artificial Intelligence – Dr. Brian Donnellan, Maynooth University
Participants explored how IoT brings efficiency, traceability, and sustainability into food production, while robotics and automation enhance productivity and precision. In addition, AI, AR, and VR applications showcased how digital transformation is redefining processes, workforce skills, and consumer experiences in the industry.
An interactive highlight of the Summer School was the Mentimeter session, where students tackled the big question: “What is a robot?”
Correct responses ranged from 30% to 100%
The average score was 69%
The results demonstrated a strong but varied understanding of robotics, while also revealing common misconceptions between AI, robotics, and automation. This underlined the importance of continued education and skill-building in the digital era.
